ok. back with a comment on spitzer. people are shocked that such a moralist would be lovenested with kristen. ok it's hypocrisy. but people don't understand this kind of hypocrisy. it's not a matter of pure insincerity. it's that the rigid moralist is someone who feels within himself the real power of vice; you don't feel this until you have succumbed, again and again; his moralism is a measure of his guilt, his attempts to impose self-control. he's enacting externally the internal drama. that's why it breaks out this way so often.
