the nyt has a bunch of little pieces this morning saying what the democratic party must do now. in the spirit of these bold pronouncements, let me be clear. the democrats must unwaveringly be the party of peace, unless polling tends to show that unprovoked killing is popular. we must reconnect with the little guy, the working men and women who made this country great. we must hew to the core values of our great nation: family, decency, hard work. if we can just show americans the clear, bold vision of the future i am sketching - if we can just keep muttering completely useless banal cliches while always being willing to compromise or contradict any principle to get elected - we can again become the proud majority party of this extraordinarily mediocre nation.
