just to tack this on: you are a fool if you believe the iranian account of events. and you are a fool if you believe the british account. as you try to figure out what the sailors' location actually was or whatever, keep in mind that the people telling you this or that are government spokesmen. to say that people like that "have no credibility" is itself an anachronism, as though any of us remembered a point at which a person like that could be expected to tell the truth sometimes. they are government spokesmen = they'll tell you what it would serve their purposes to have you believe. thankfully, this very fact, which we all know, means that the project is an a priori failure: they can't have you believing anything unless you are naive to the point of actually being a toddler.
