i think this is obviously right. let me put it like this. what are some of the terrible things that have happened because people refused, on grounds of conscience, to perform their institutionally-defined functions? now what are some of the  bad things that have happened because people violated their  consciences and did what the institution demanded? always opt out in such circumstances, and always respect the decisions of others to do so.
