the meadow next to my house is four acres, more or less, and it is surrounded by a wall of berry briars: black raspberries, wineberries, red raspberries, golden raspberries, and blackberries. i'm stepping up the jam production this year, and just brought in a colander full of wineberries (the black raspberries ripened first, and we did seventeed pints of jam). and while we're at it, let me recommend henry thoreau's lovely book wild fruits, put together from manuscript notes about five years ago. the description of "going a-graping" is worth the price of admission.
