i think we can all throw our support behind the Nationwide Report Suspicious Activity Initiative (though let me express slight reservations about 'nationwide report suspicious activity' as an adjective of english; perhaps it reads better in the original german). the only thing more admirable than a nation of informants is a nation of bootlickers. indeed we'd no doubt create an Initiative to encourage bootlicking, were that not redundant with our very national identity. there is no more vivid lesson of history than that you can't govern anything, from a nation to a school to a human subjectivity, without encouraging each member of your population to engage in anonymous denunciations of each other member. 

funny, the other day i was driving on 83, out near the home depot at exit 4, and i saw a convoy of humvees and trucks painted in camo hauling actual missiles and stuff, no doubt destined to enhance a pakistani wedding or bar mitzvah. and you want me to report my neighbor for buying acetone? geez chill.
