american education is in a state of extreme crisis. indeed, it has been in a state of extreme acute immediate excruciating crisis at every microsecond since 1850. very seriously there has certainly never been a moment in my lifetime in which the crisis in american education has not been at threat level incandescent crimson. so: i'm disarming. i think american education is fundamentally sound and good! i'm through suggesting "solutions" to "problems": that is itself the problem: it's conceived as a technical or economic arena of means and ends. but kids aren't means! so i say just freeze it in place precisely as it is, with no child etc. leave it alone. if you keep scratching it you'll just make it worse.
