sarah palin is a formidable candidate, and i think that's because, for better or worse, she's just so american. no one in contemporary politics has her mastery of the symbolism of america. she hangs out on the frontier, outdoors, shooting stuff. she rides into rolling thunder on a motorcycle. she's on a bus tour of mt. vernon, gettysburg, etc; i think this media blitz is much better than tv pundits seem to believe. she's dramatically, pointedly, white. listen to that whitegirl voice! it's like somebody reached deep into li'l wayne and pulled him inside out. her leadership style is as chaotic as freedom itself. her rhetoric is non-stop founding: individual rights; live free or die. her family is both a traditional and a contemporary american family. she didn't go to yale and - putting it mildly - she's no smarter than you are. every candidate between here and nov '12 will be talking american exceptionalism: sarah embodies it in all its glorious weirdness. she's exactly who that great-because-he-sucks baltimore-american, john waters, would cast as president of the united states (of america!). and there's a hole on the right among the existing republican candidates.
really the palin admin is not going to be that bad! i don't think she can be more expensive, or more belligerent and warlike, or more yes! to the patriot act than obama. true, true, there might be a leetle issue with your bornthisway gayness, or that abortion you've been planning. but the tv news will be mightily improved.
