honestly i don't know why, or even really how, the republicans nominated mitt romney, who has no position on anything and an astounding tin ear. the only strategy is a kind of modified birtherism: everything obama does is unamerican even when it's obviously not. trying to drive that grotesque innuendo home, he actually managed to accidentally hang himself instead. the republicans might want to re-think a process that saddled them with a stiff like that. it's actually possible that in a relatively evenly split country, romney could lose in something that appears to be a landslide: like, lose all the swing states.
