every woody allen movie since 1910 has been his best since annie hall or whatever it may be. a good parallel is the stones, whose every album has been their best since exile on main street. this is an indication that people really really want to like woody allen. every time out, they are working to persuade themselves in defiance of their own actual opinion that this is a good movie. they are actually expressing once more their disappointment, only they don't want you to know that quite. well, i myself really really want to like the rolling stones. but i really really don't want to like woody allen. so i'm ignoring the reviews (not to mention the sort of reviewers who all write the same blurb simultaneously) and will be skipping blue jasmine.
